School visits to Maidstone Museum help inspire learning among children within a fun environment

School visits

Inspire learning with your class through awe and wonder with a range of interactive workshops at Maidstone Museum in Kent.

With the opportunity for students to get hands on with artefacts and specimens, the prospect of encouraging enquiry, discussion, and interaction will doubtless prove inspiring and beneficial to their educational needs. We offer a range of one-hour workshops linked to areas of the National Curriculum including history, science, literacy, and art. Selected craft sessions are also available to complement the main workshops.

In addition to these hands-on workshops, Maidstone Museum also offers a selection of photo and themed trails for your visit. These can be emailed to you in advance of your visit, or a class set can be ready for when you visit. Please note that these trails must be booked in advance.

Limited workshop sessions are available each week so we recommend booking as far in advance as possible. You can visit the museum or arrange an outreach visit for more information and to discuss your school visit requirements. Contact us by submitting an online enquiry form or by calling direct on 01622 602853 to find out more.

Ancient Civilisations gallery

Due to the exciting redevelopment of the Ancient Civilisations Gallery, the Egyptian collection will be off display between February 20-March 17, 2017. We will continue to run our Egyptian workshop throughout this time, and the rest of our schools programme as close to normal as possible.

The Egyptian collection, including Ta-Kush, will be on display in the smaller temporary exhibition space until the new gallery is ready in the middle of June 2017. The toy display, meanwhile, will be redisplayed in the costume gallery from the middle of February 2017.

This will also mean we will only have access to our main learning zone room, so we will be using the Great Hall and galleries for workshops if more than one class visit at a time. Allocated lunch room time will need to be shorter in order to accommodate two classes. In addition, we will not be able to accommodate three classes on one day due to this limited space.
