This is the left sheet of a triptych. Kunisada collaborated with Hiroshige on this print series, Hiroshige was responsible for the landscapes and Kunisada for the figures. Kunisada had been a pupil of Utagawa Toyokuni and in 1844 he began to sign his work using the name Toyokuni.
