Signed by the brush of Utamaro, the print shows the character Orie Jutaro, from a play by Chikamatsu. She holds an umbrella made from paper with bamboo ribs and a bamboo handle known as a higasa. Utamaro was a prolific artist who taught and illustrated books, as well as producing woodblock prints.
