Artist: Eisen, Keisai (1791-1848)

Title: Courtesan

Date: Edo Period, post 1818

This print is part of a series. The use of indigo blue shows that it dates from post 1818, as the colour was introduced in the bunsei period 1818-1830. The courtesan is seen with her hair down, decorated with a large comb (kushi) and six hair pins (kanzashi). Silhouetted on the screen (shoji) behind, can be seen a seated courtesan and a male.
