Switzerland is an area that captivated Goodwin and he is known to have travelled to the region to walk and paint nine times.

He wrote in his diary: “And yet men who call themselves landscape painters, talk of Switzerland as impossible. Perhaps it is true! But at least, it ought to be so inspiring as to cause men to wish to put down something of the ‘impossible’ to canvas or paper!”
