A rapid sketch on mount board in pencil, with ink used to sharpen the outlines and to form and denote areas of shade. There is an oil painting with a similar composition in the Museum’s collections.
The famous Mount is found over 350m from the shore of Mount’s Bay in Penwith, West Cornwall. Historically it was home to the same order of Benedictine monks found at Mont St Michel in Normandy, until the dissolution of the monasteries. Goodwin also painted the sister site in Normandy.
