Title: Caudebec, Normandy, 1922

This sketch on tinted textured paper of Caudebec, on the banks of the River Seine, features a decorative border by Goodwin. In his later years, Goodwin worried that he had a large body of work that was unfinished. He began to paint decorative borders around sketches, often mounting them in sketchbooks, to enhance the colours and to see if the distraction might allow time for him to see what needed to be resolved.
