Sketching was a habit of a lifetime whether in pencil, ink, watercolour, crayon or pastel. In his diary, Goodwin wrote “I am not sure if my flying sketches (as Ruskin used to call them) are not the best things I do.” A viewpoint also held by Ruskin.
