Title: Salisbury Cathedral
Salisbury Cathedral is painted bathed in sunlight with its dramatic spire, the tallest in England, rising up to the heavens. Cross hatching, in ink over the watercolour, is used to provide shadows in the top left amongst the trees.
Goodwin had been a regular exhibitor with the Fine Art Society, a gallery in New Bond Street London, since its creation in 1876. The gallery continued to promote his work following his death in 1832, and this painting was exhibited with them in July 1935.
