A daimyo’s cortege proceeds over the bridge through the rain towards the village hidden amongst the pine trees. This is a famous print showing Hiroshige’s skill at representing heavy rain through the use of diagonal broken lines. This landscape series made Hiroshige’s name and he is revered as one of the top six great masters of ukiyo-e.
