The Kisokaido was one of the five main routes through Japan. Known as the ‘road of the mountains of the centre’ (Nakasendo), it followed the River Kiso inland, linking Kyoto and Edo. The series of 70 prints was produced in collaboration with another ukiyo-e artist, Keisai Eisan.
