Title: Goblin Moonlight, Beachy Head
Beachy Head was visible in the distance from the Goodwin family home ‘Ellerslie’ in Bexhill. At Ellerslie, Goodwin kept two rooms for painting. One was used as his studio and the second for storage of works and as a drying room. This work is dated 1923/5 and shows how Goodwin would return to earlier sketches with fresh eyes and knowledge to see what was required to complete them. He referred to this method of work as ‘rescuing the perishing’.
