Title: Corfe Castle, 1920
This image glows and the effect is heightened by the swirling mist that descends over the castle and the church and village beyond. A heavy use of body colour (the incorporation of white into watercolour) creates the opaque mist, while the highlights have been made by scratching into the surface.
Goodwin greatly admired the work of Turner. While Turner favoured yellows, Goodwin favoured a combination of colours of nature; green and blue, together with the rich warm colours of the sun and all its ‘sky pageantry’.
