Title: Canterbury

Goodwin began to experiment with pastel drawing later in life. The use of tinted paper provided him with a new challenge when drawing and painting. It challenged him to think about how he selected and laid down his colours dependent on the tint of the paper used.

In this image, Goodwin has allowed the greenish-brown paper to show through the pastel colours. He uses the colour of the paper to add form to the cathedral and depth to the sky.
