Title: Arundel

Goodwin moved to Arundel in the late 1860s. His first wife, Mary Ann Lucas, whom he married in 1867, was from the town. Sadly she died two years later of tubercular peritonitis and Goodwin moved to Brighton. Close connections remained with the family though, as Goodwin’s elder brother Harry’s wife was Mary’s sister, Henrietta.

Goodwin went on to meet his second wife, Alice Desborough, when painting a commission for her brother-in-law in Devon.
