Painting was Goodwin’s vice. His painting was a distraction from his family and social life. He wrote in his diary in 1914: “I miss too much of humanity, owing to my covetousness of getting all he landscape I can into my life. As Darwin regretted that his devotion to natural science had caused other and perhaps ore important sections of his brain to atrophy, so it is with me.”
