Everything you need to plan with confidence
Planning an event at Maidstone Museum is straightforward. Below you’ll find everything you need to know before booking or confirming your details. This page brings together key practical information to support your planning, whether you’re organising a small meeting or a larger event.
If you have specific requirements, our team is always happy to help.
We offer flexible catering options to suit a wide range of events, from simple daytime meetings to larger evening receptions. You can choose the approach that works best for your event and your guests.
You are welcome to use one of our preferred catering suppliers, who are familiar with Maidstone Museum and experienced in working within the building. Alternatively, you can bring your own caterer. In this case, we will need to carry out a brief check to ensure they meet our hygiene and insurance requirements.
For smaller events, we can provide tea, coffee and light refreshments. Drinks receptions and canapés can also be arranged, depending on the nature of your event. A small kitchenette is available for plating and storage, although there is no full commercial kitchen on site.
Maidstone Museum is fully licensed to serve alcohol at private events. If you would like to include a bar, extended service or specific arrangements, our team can talk you through the available options.
External bar providers can also be used, provided they hold the appropriate licences.
A range of essential equipment is available to support your event. This includes tables and chairs, presentation screens or projectors (subject to availability), a basic PA system for talks, and standard items such as flipcharts and power access.
If your event requires more specialist equipment, such as staging, lighting or recording, we can recommend suitable suppliers or work alongside your chosen provider.
We build set-up and de-rig time into your booking so you have the space and time needed to prepare. For larger or more complex events, additional access can often be arranged.
Suppliers such as caterers, performers and AV teams can deliver directly to Maidstone Museum. We will provide clear instructions in advance to ensure access runs smoothly.
There is no dedicated on-site parking, but several public car parks are located within a short walking distance. Our team can advise on the most convenient options for your guests and suppliers.
We want Maidstone Museum to be accessible and welcoming for all visitors. Most hireable spaces can be reached via lifts or alternative routes, and we can provide guidance based on the room you have booked.
If you or your guests have specific access requirements, please let us know in advance so we can support you.
To protect the building and its collections, a small number of restrictions apply:
- Open flames, candles and smoke machines are not permitted
- Red wine and dark-coloured drinks may be restricted in some gallery spaces
- Sound levels and lighting may be limited in certain areas
We also require external suppliers to provide proof of public liability insurance. Our team will guide you through any requirements relevant to your event during the planning process.
