One of a series of 50 prints showing national heroes from the 16th century. The Taiheiki wars were fought in the 14th century but Kuniyoshi’s prints depict warriors from the 16th century. Tsutsui Junkei was a great lord (daimyo) of Yamato. He was known as opportunistic and was successful in forging the right alliances or remaining neutral during the civil wars.
