Nicola Flower’s textile installation is inspired by Button Walk and Pond, located at the old Springfield Paper Mill, Maidstone.
Buttons and fastenings were cut off during ‘rag preparation’ in readiness for paper making, the buttons were collected and then deposited around the pond and its approaching walk.
Through her drawing, textiles, and storytelling, Nicola explores this magical place of historical significance.
Nicola will be artist in residence as Button Pond Girl on Wednesday 8, 15, 22 & 29 January, from 11am to 4pm, so you can chat to her about the exhibition and her work. She would love to hear from visitors about their own memories of the Springfield Paper Mill.
